Well, shipped a Christmas paskage to Medellin, Colombia and FEDEX charged almost 3 times the value of the package stating it covered shipping and taxes. The package was delivered and still had to pay more taxes upon arrival now 50% of value of listed value.

I could have flown the package and delivered it myself for less than half the price.

I am looking for an alternate way of sending packages other than FEDEX, does anyone know of a way without paying extreme prices like FEDEX?

I will never use FEDEX and I recommend everyone look for alternate ways to send packages, and UPS isn't any better.

The additional 'taxes' you had to pay are charged by the Colombian government, not Fedex.Fedex bases their shipping costs on the weight of the package, the dimensions of the package, and where its going; the value of the package has absolutely nothing to do with how much they charge you, unless you declare a value (and pay for it) for replacement purposes.

FYI, you can find out estimated charges on the FedEx web site.

Next time try the US Postal Service...it'll take longer, but it will be cheaper.Probably.
